Why choose Boyar High School?
Where we sleep
Each student has their own bed, shelf, desk and closet. Each dorm room has an en suite shower and bathroom.
Where we eat
Live-in students have 3 meals a day served in the dining hall. Day students in the IB program have lunch and on long days also dinner available in the dining hall. The dining hall is kosher. Every meal has hot and cold food choices and there is always a vegetarian option available. Some meals include salad bar or hot drink station to make coffee, tea or cocoa.
Where we snack
There is a cafeteria on campus where students can buy additional meals or snacks during the school day. There are also several mini-markets in easy walking distance from campus for those students who like to keep a supply of snacks on hand in their rooms. Only kosher food can be brought onto the campus.
Where we study
Classrooms are flexible and set up according to the needs of the lesson, sometimes in rows, sometimes in groups. Chemistry, biology and computer labs are supplied with all necessary equipment. The library includes a pedagogical learning center, a classroom, an exhibition room, two audio-visual booths and of course shelves and shelves of books! The residential campus also includes the two Niot study rooms, donated by the parents and friends of Niot Watzman z”l , a fallen soldier who graduated from the boarding school.
Where we exercise
There are both indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a soccer field, outdoor gym equipment, a short track for running lengths, an equipment room full of pilates and yoga equipment, free weights, and other equipment, a gymnasium and locker rooms.
Where we get creative
There is a music room, a rehearsal room, an auditorium with a stage and theatrical lighting, a theatre green room, an art studio, and media and photography equipment.
Where we hang out
There are indoor and outdoor places for formal and informal social gatherings both on the academic and the residential campuses. Maayan’s Corner on the academic campus is an artistic outdoor space commemorating a graduate who was lost in a tragedy. Classes, activities and casual socializing all take place in this area. The academic campus has both real and synthetic grass, picnic tables, and a variety of outdoor corners where it is common to find students spending time between classes. Additionally, the residential campus has bench swings, lawns, lounges and community rooms that are used for both programmed activities and casual social time.
Community agricultural projects
There are two greenhouses on campus where students can participate in agricultural projects both for classwork or for volunteering hours. One of the greenhouses is for raising and breeding fish which are eventually sold for a small fee. A second greenhouse is currently used for growing lettuce which is also eventually clipped and sold in the local farmer’s market. Students are welcome and encouraged to help with every step of the process.
